      On 25 November, at the Ministry of Environment in Brasilia, with the presence of Environment Minister, Izabella Teixeira, was signed the Sectorial Agreement for Implementation of Reverse Logistics System in General Packaging.

      According to the minister, "the inclusion of waste pickers was essential for the implementation of this reverse logistics, as well as the collaboration of the business class, which produces packaging and is present to assist with the removal of these environmentally friendly materials, way in which the country has a growing, economic and social sustainable".

      The agreement is expected in the Federal Law no. 12,305 / 2010 (National Policy on Solid Waste), which establishes the shared responsibility for the lifecycle of products, charging the manufacturers, importers, distributors and traders the implementation of Reverse Logistics Systems by return products characterized as packaging after use by the consumer.

      As disclosed on the website of the National Information on Solid Waste Management System, the system implementation will include the packages contained in the dry fraction of municipal solid waste or treated, such as packages of paper and cardboard, plastic, aluminum, steel, glass , or a combination of these materials, and cartons of long life.

      The agreement was signed by about 20 associations from the business sector, the production of various types of packaging industries, the National Movement of Recyclable Materials and the federal government.

      "Essentially, the Ministry of Environment mediated negotiations to be made the separation of dry and organic materials, waste reduction and routing the packaging for the recycling market," explains the director of Urban Environment of MMA, Zilda Veloso.

      Although the proposed Sectoral Agreement has been debated for four years and held public consultation on the draft text, between the months of September and November 2014, municipalities have reacted through the National Association of Municipal Sanitation Services - Assemae.
